Beginning Kiteboarding Lessons
Beginning Kiteboarding Lessons
It’s time to Get Hooked! Wind Over Water Kiteboarding offers a series of three lessons to get beginners riding. Beginner lessons are available individually or in cost-saving packages. These lessons will take you from zero to hero!
For many students, the biggest challenge in beginning instruction is the natural temptation to skip steps. The first lessons focus intensely on rigging, mechanics, conditions, how to maneuver yourself around in and out of the water with and with out the board. It’s possible to get on the board quicker, but more time learning proper kite control and safety, will help give you a mind set of a responsible kiter. You wouldn’t want to learn how to ride a bike with out knowing how to stop would you?
All in-water instruction for beginners is one-on-one. WOW Kiteboarding provides helmets with built-in radios for ease of communication between you and your instructor.
Kiteboarding Packages
“Get Hooked”
This package includes all three of our beginner classes. It is our most popular package. If you’re seriously interested in learning to kiteboard, this package is the unbeatable way to get riding quickly, safely, and confidently.
The three classes last about two hours each, for a total of approximately six hours. Lesson 2 and Lesson 3 are water lessons with one-on-one instruction. The water lessons can be very physically demanding. We recommend you book the water lessons on different days, even if you’re the kind of athlete who can handle extended physical exertion. In our many years of experience, we have found that everyone benefits from a period of rest and reflection before Lesson 3.
Courses Included:
Lesson 1: Kite Fundamentals (Beach Lesson) 2 hours Description
Lesson 2: Board Skills I (Water Lesson) 2 hours Description
Lesson 3: Board Skills II (Water Lesson) 2 hours Description
Intro Land to Water
This one-day instruction package is for highly-confident quick learners, athletes with related experience such as windsurfing or paragliding, or kiteboarders whose skills are rusty or out-of-date. You’ll learn to safely launch and fly a kite, and perform self-rescue and “body dragging” maneuvers. Unless you progress very rapidly, you will spend little or no time actually riding on the board.
Courses Included (all hours done on the same day):
Lesson 1: Kite Fundamentals (Beach Lesson) 2 hours Description
Lesson 2: Board Skills I (Water Lesson) 2 hours Description
Individual Lessons
Lesson 1: Kite Fundamentals (Beach Lesson)
This is the first step in learning to kiteboard. You will learn the basics of kiteboarding equipment, wind and power theory, and safety systems. This is more than a simple “intro” lesson. It covers all you need to know so you can set up, fly and control your kite, and safely get into the water with a fully-powered kite. If its your very 1st lesson it will takes place on land, but if you came from another school or took a land lesson with us in the past this lesson can be all water.
Group Lessons are available for this on-land course.
Lesson 2: Board Skills I (Water Lesson)
In this one-on-one private lesson, you will get into the water and fly a fully-powered kite. You’ll learn how to relaunch a kite that has fallen onto the water, and how to harness the power of the wind to “body drag” in the direction of your choice “Side stroke” (including upwind). A few students manage to stand up on a board during this class; however, the main focus is on maneuvering with a kite while your body is in the water and getting comfortable managing the kite and board at the same time. Your instructor will assist and stay in touch via radio helmet.
Lesson 3: Board Skills II (Water Lesson)
Here’s where it all comes together! Working closely with your instructor for two or three hours, you’ll get up on your board and ride. Before you’re done, you’ll have a complete set of basic skills for controlled kiteboarding maneuvers. In this class, you are free to ride as far as time permits. Your instructor will assist and be in continuous contact via radio helmet. Most students end up miles away from the starting point, with tired muscles and huge smiles.
