Intermediate Board Skills: Edge/Power Control
Intermediate Board Skills: Edge/Power Control
Riding with an instructor is the quickest way to increase your finesse, power and control of your kite and board. Often it happens that the most useful feedback for learning kiteboarders is related to speed management and power control. WOW Kiteboarding provides helmet radios for one-on-one lessons, so you can receive continuous instruction on the water.
Rocketing along at speeds you can’t handle is exhilarating, but it’s not exactly fun. Uncontrolled speed or an overpowered kite usually results in a wipeout, which puts everyone at risk and means less time enjoying your ride. This course covers various methods of keeping your kite and board under control when the power comes on strong:
- Sheeting out to reduce power
- Steering your kite out of the power zone
- Decreasing edge by pointing the board downwind
- Weighting the tail of your board with a stomp
- Dragging your hand, dragging your hips, or even skipping on your back to reduce speed
